SIT Graduate Institute has announced it will match the Segal AmeriCorps Education award up to $5,500 and waive the application fee for all AmeriCorps Alums. SIT offers this new scholarship to AmeriCorps alumni accepted into Master’s Degree programs in sustainable development, peacebuilding and conflict transformation, international education, TESOL and Service, Leadership & Management at its Vermont campus and Washington, DC Center.

Many AmeriCorps alumni attend SIT, including Marlee Cea, a student in SIT’s MA in Sustainable Development. Cea served in AmeriCorps NCCC from 2010 to 2012, working from Pennsylvania to Maine, where she coordinated a restoration burn to save an endangered species and served victims of Hurricane Irene. She plans to serve in the Peace Corps to fulfill her SIT practicum, a core component of every SIT degree.
Whitney Longnecker, also a current student in SIT’s MA in International Education, served in AmeriCorps VISTA from 2009 to 2010 for Iowa Campus Compact at AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. In her position, Whitney assisted students as they completed a service learning requirement, planned an all-campus service day, and developed a pre-service reflection session. Whitney’s SIT graduate degree is preparing her for a career in international education, where she plans to work on a college or university campus with study abroad or international students.
