See You at These NCVS Sessions!

June 14, 2012

Can you believe we are only 3 days away from the National Conference on Volunteering and Service coming to Chicago? AmeriCorps Alums is glad to be at this year’s NCVS. As the world’s largest gathering of volunteer and service leaders from the nonprofit, corporate and government sectors, NCVS is an exciting place for Alums to convene because AmeriCorps Alumni continue to demonstrate the limitless possibilities of a lifetime of service.

We welcome the 500+ Alumni in attendance to join us at our following sessions, that is, when you’re not too busy smoozing with guests speakers like Kevin Bacon, Barbara Bush, and Dr. Jill Biden at the Opening Session or Secretary Arne Duncan, of the U.S. Department of Education and CNN Anchor Soledad O’Brien at the Target Education Plenary session, which are both FREE to attend with registration:

AmeriCorps Alums, in partnership with AmeriCorps programs and networks in the Chicago area, is convening alumni of AmeriCorps programs to discuss how your year of service can influence your role as a local change agent, as well as contribute to a national movement. We will also be hosting a networking pre-conference reception sponsored by the Peace Corps, where AmeriCorps Alums and Peace Corps alumni will engage stories of domestic and international service.

  • AmeriCorps Alums Town Hall – Tuesday, June 19, 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. (SID 2944)

Connect with AmeriCorps Alums and hear best practices and stories about continuing service throughout your career. We’ll hear stories from our Eli J. Segal Entrepreneurship winner Anita Yip, presentations on the national impact of our local chapters, the ways we connect with our members, and how we continue to stay committed to Alumni across the country. Our session will include a policy and advocacy conversation with ServeNext.

Between sessions, we’ll also be hosting informal meet-ups inside the Exhibit Hall. Join Kenneth Tran, our External Relations Coordinator on Monday, June 18, 12 – 1 p.m. at the News Desk on Level 3 of the convention center. And Greg Heinrich, our Alumni Mobilization Manager, will be at the Social Imprints booth on June 19, 3 – 3:30 p.m.

While in the Exhibit Hall, don’t forget to pick up AmeriCorps Alums gear at the Social Imprints booths 202 and 204. Social Imprints will be stocked with some of our favorite AmeriCorps Alums merchandise, with a special discount for Alums attending NCVS. Make sure you’re following @AmeriCorpsAlums on Twitter as we’ll be tweeting out special giveaways.

Be sure to keep up with us on Twitter during NCVS with #ACAlumsNCVS where we’ll be tweeting live and following the conversations of Alums at Conference.

Also, don’t miss the following Alums approved and endorsed conference sessions that highlight, discuss and address the leadership and future of service:

  • Civic Fellows Leadership Exchange with John Gomperts – Wednesday, Wed June 20, 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM (SID 2909)

In this intimate conversation with one of today’s thought leaders, you will discover new knowledge and strategies, apply innovative approaches in new ways, network with high-level decision makers and generate practical ideas to drive your success.

  • Reimagining Service Forum (SID 2746) – Tuesday, June 19, 8:30 – 10:00 AM (SID 2746)

Join us for the latest updates regarding Reimagining Service, including research as well as tools and resources to increase effective volunteer engagement practices in the nonprofit, corporate and philanthropic sectors.

This year’s conference will also feature a National Service track featuring sessions for each of the Corporation of National and Community Service’s program audiences. See the list of sessions here to add to your Conference itinerary.
