To Give Back & Uplift Where You Live

May 25, 2012

Today’s guest post comes from Michael Neville, a Teach For America 2001 and 2002 Corps member. He’s currently the owner of  Michael Neville & Associates Inc which is affiliated with  Keller Williams Realty.

As a member of the Agent Leadership Council (comparable to Board of Directors) for Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Midtown we have a commitment to ensure all members of our brokerage serve our community not only in the process of buying & selling property, but to give back & uplift.  The best way to do that is in leading by example, demonstrating corporate responsibility – that you can be a part of the business world while serving the community

This is done both in a commitment of all members to donate both financially through “KW Cares” as well as volunteer their time, promote community development events & raise the awareness of organizations that need our support. KW Cares is a 501C3 that was established in 2003 in order to provide emergency financial assistance to any member of the KW family in need and other charities aligned with the mission and values of Keller Williams Realty and KW Cares

KW realtors serving on “Red Day” with Habitat for Humanity.

Collectively we all took part in two service projects. On “Red Day” May 10th, 2012 our staff volunteered at Habitat for Humanity with members of our brokerage working both on the construction of a Habitat home as well as in Habitat Restore.  The proceeds generated from the Habitat Restore are able to fund the cost of 6 homes annually in the Atlanta area.  It was a great way to give back & assist in providing one of the basic needs of life by providing shelter for another family.

During my time as a Teach For America Atlanta Corps member, I taught in Atlanta Public Schools before joining KIPP W.A.Y.S. (West Atlanta Young Scholars) Academy staff. At KIPP , I served a student body where 99% of the students received free or reduced lunch.

On May 12th we celebrated the graduating KIPP W.A.Y.S. senior class of 2012 (the first class I had the honor of teaching) as they continued their climb up the mountain to college.  The KIPP network has demonstrated success with 95% graduating high school & 85% matriculating directly on to college.

I had a goal of generating $10,000 for the Metro Atlanta KIPP through College Scholarship Fund to support my former students.  With the support of Keller Williams Associates across Metro Atlanta we were able exceed our goal by raising  $15,000  towards filling the financial gap to cover students’college tuition.

More students need our financial support to make their dreams a reality, so I’ve increased the goal for next year’s graduating class to raise $25,000.

If you’d like to help, here’s the link where you can support our incredible young scholars. Click on the Paypal Button then proceed through with donation. On final screen, earmark the funds to “KIPP Scholarship Fund”.
