AmeriCorps Alum Seeks High Potential US Business Leaders for Ridiculously Great Opportunities

October 13, 2011

A guest post from Jennifer Anastasoff, an AmeriCorps Alum from Teach for America in Houston, who is the co-founder and founding CEO of FuseCorps.

“AmeriCorps Alum Seeks High Potential US Business Leaders for Ridiculously Great Opportunities”

This blog title may read like a misguided Craigslist personals ad…except that the opportunity is both personal and professional.  Fuse Corps, a social enterprise that I co-founded this year with amazing leaders including Lenny Mendonca, Head of Firm Knowledge at McKinsey & Co., entrepreneur and Little Bets author Peter Sims and former Chief Learning Officer at Sun Microsystems, Dave Viotti.  We are seeking high potential entrepreneurial leaders with a drive for excellence in both business and public service to develop their leadership skills for 12 months as a “cabinet-level” fellow with mayors, governors and local coalitions.  Applications for our March 2012 fellowship opened on October 1 and close on October 31 this year.

When I started in AmeriCorps as a Teach for America teacher fifteen years ago, I had no idea that my experience would lead me to stints in state government, business and to starting three social enterprises. The small but mighty percentage of AmeriCorps alumni who I have seen move from public service to the private sector seem to share a powerful desire to balance a fast moving career trajectory, develop leadership skills and impact their local communities.  Fuse Corps’ 12 month fellowship is a unique opportunity to do all three with our intense leadership development curriculum & coaching (in partnership with the Stanford D School & McKinsey), stellar state and local leaders and deep network of business and social change leaders.

My sense is that more AmeriCorps alumni than we know ultimately decided to take our skills and passion to the private sector…and many are continuing to support their communities in small and large ways.  My hope is that Fuse Corps’ provides you with that long awaited opportunity to spend 12 months changing the world and becoming the leader you know you are.  Again.
