Helping After the Tornadoes in the South

April 29, 2011

By Jeremy Exell, AmeriCorps Alums

The storm system of the last week has left mass destruction throughout Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and Arkansas. Thousands are without power and water or are simply homeless. Worst of all the death toll is rising over 300. Our thoughts are with all of our Alums, their families, and everyone else dealing with the aftermath of these tornadoes.  Now is once again a time for us to reach out and help our friends and neighbors.  We’re asking that you please visit the links below to find possible volunteer opportunities in your area. Many our Alums are still Red Cross certified from their service. We encourage you to check your certification, contact your local chapter, and see if their is a way you can help.

Also, help us spread the word on volunteer opportunities. Clothing and food drives, donation gatherings, or recovery opportunities are springing up across the country. If you hear of one in your town post it on the AmeriCorps Alums Facebook wall or tweet it out to us @americorpsalums.
