FY2011 Budget and AmeriCorps

April 13, 2011

By Jeremy Exell

We wanted to take a quick minute to update people on the current state of the CNCS budget and funding for AmeriCorps now that the dust has begun to settle following Friday’s resolution. The CNCS budget for the remainder of the 2011FY will be reduced by about $74 million. This cut includes a $23 million reduction to AmeriCorps State and National, $12 million reduction to Domestic Volunteer Service Act programs, and a $40 million cut to Learn and Serve, eliminating its funding all together.

Having been faced with complete elimination only a few months ago, we can celebrate in the fact that AmeriCorps and CNCS is still funded and running. However, the elimination of Learn and Serve is tough loss and the challenge now is to make sure that no more programs get cut in the FY2012 budget. The calls, the District Day visits, the letters to your local papers, they all made the difference.

Thank you all your efforts, and your continued leadership for national service as an AmeriCorps Alum.
