Stand for AmeriCorps! Visit YOUR Rep Next Friday

February 18, 2011

We need you to take action to Stand for AmeriCorps and Save Service NEXT FRIDAY, FEB. 25th!

As you know Congress is considering legislation to eliminate funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service from the budget.

With AmeriCorps at risk, YOU know how much local communities, cities, states and our nation and our most vulnerable citizens stand to lose. Congress is debating this bill now, and they’ll be looking to their constituents to see how much — or how little — the American people support these cuts.

AmeriCorps Alums is working with a coalition of organizations including ServeNext, Voices for National Service and Service Nation to ensure that AmeriCorps funding stays put.

AND NOW YOU CAN DO SOMETHING. WE NEED YOUR HELP NEXT FRIDAY, FEB. 25th. Visit YOUR REP(S) and tell them that their community and voters cannot afford to lose AmeriCorps!

It’s easy, sign up at

  1. Enter your zip and choose the rep(s) you would like to visit.
  2. Then show up to your rep(s) office next Friday, Feb. 25th for the nation-wide “Save Service District Day.”
  3. Be sure to wear any AmeriCorps Alums or AmeriCorps gear you have and make sure they hear your story of service… how it changed YOU and those you served!

Thank you for your service and we look forward to seeing you on the 25th!

The AmeriCorps Alums Team

P.S. Can’t attend Friday? Sign the Save AmeriCorps Petition, started by an AmeriCorps alum! Want to support the fight to keep AmeriCorps going strong? Please Donate.

Sorry – will be busy trying to figure out how to use non-competitive eligibility status. No one at AmeriCorps or VISTA has provided any useful or helpful information about how it actually works.
