We’re also voting for City Year

May 4, 2010

AmeriCorps Alums  is a network of alumni leaders from all walks of AmeriCorps service. That’s why we were so excited to find out that our good friends at City Year are also in the Pepsi Refresh Project this May.

City Year is going for the 250K to support their efforts  to help kids graduate by providing more tutors and mentors in schools.

We’ll be working together over the next month to co-promote our campaigns, and help us spread the word about how these grants would help both of our organizations. But what’s even better about our partnership in this project, is that in many ways, we were brought together by two AmeriCorps and City Year alums!

Joe Bowmaster, a current City Year member in New Hampshire has also been leading the charge in connecting Missouri AmeriCorps Alums for a few years now… in talking with him about the Pepsi Project, Joe suggested that we also connect with City Year.

Zach Maurin, Co-Founder of ServeNext.org and a City Year Boston alumnus from 02-03, also participated in the Pepsi Refresh Project in February. Since the Pepsi Refresh Project allows you 10 votes a day to spend on 10 different projects, Zach had the idea to bring together a coalition of organizations to ask their communities to vote for each other.

Of the seven different organizations who were part of the coalition in Feburary, six were able to win a Refresh Grant, including ServeNext.org. Many organizations and individuals who have participated in the following rounds of the Refresh Project have also decided to collaborate.

Both Joe and Zach are great examples of  City Year and AmeriCorps alumni continuing to change the world every day.

So this May, when you pledge to vote for AmeriCorps Alums and our local chapters, don’t forget to take a few more seconds and support City Year with your vote, too.

City Year has really rocked it out for us. I think the coalition partnership is helping both AmeriCorps Alums and City Year climb up the charts. Let’s keep climbing up the charts together and get in the top 2 for $250K category (City Year) and top 10 for $50K category (AmeriCorps Alums)
