AmeriCorps Alums Webinar Series A Chance For Alums To Give Back
Each month AmeriCorps Alums conducts a monthly professional development webinar series for any AmeriCorps alums and current AmeriCorps members who are interested. Many AmeriCorps alums have gained significant experience and have become experts in their own right in a variety of fields and careers. And the webinar series provides a perfect opportunity for them to share their knowledge and experiences with those alums and current members who are interested in tapping into their life and career experiences. This broad subset of AmeriCorps alums is providing everything from assistance in translating AmeriCorps on your resume to post-AmeriCorps opportunities overseas to an intro on how to use LinkedIn. As Elizabeth Cronlund (AmeriCorps’ 09) shares below about her opportunity to serve as a panelist on a recent AmeriCorps Alums professional development webinar, the opportunity is truly one that allows AmeriCorps alums to stay connected to their roots of service while providing a valuable professional development service to other alums and current members.
Being a part of the webinar was a great experience. I love that AmeriCorps Alums is providing this practical and valuable resource to Alums seeking employment and ways to really bolster their knowledge base. Life after AmeriCorps has always been something that can be very tricky to navigate because it’s hard to quantify and describe what a year of National Service does to change and refine you. After your service term you can feel lost when you leave the camaraderie of such an intense, and often stress-filled, experience.
The diversity of the speakers in experiences, education, and career path allowed us to really engage in focused conversation with the participants. As with all enjoyable gatherings, the webinar seemed to fly by and left me (and I’m sure a few others) with the feeling that this was only the tip of the iceberg for a much larger conversation. It was such a privilege to connect with my AmeriCorps family.
Natasha Harrison (AmeriCorps ’04), another alum who recently provided her expertise and insights for our monthly professional development webinar series said,
I love talking with current AmeriCorps members. It continually gives me hope that there are a legion of people ready to change the world. It was a pleasure and honor to share how my experience as a AmeriCorps member prepared me for the community organizing field. The format was engaging and interactive with loads of questions. Based on the feedback, I think it was time well spent.
